Well the first thing to do is to wipe as much as you can using paper towels. Paper towels come in handy for everything every picking up the solids after your pooch drops something quite smelly on the floor. 

After you have wiped up moisture you need something to get the smell out. I use good old-fashioned Arm and Hammer Baking Soda, I just mix up a paste with water and spread it over the stain and leave it to dry, then scrape it off and vacuum. 

Baking Soda is the best in my book but then again I use it to clean my teeth and I drink the stuff for Vitamin C, but that is me. It works perfectly to get rid of smells, it is even written on the packet that it gets rid of smells. Very versatile stuff is baking soda. 

Some dog and cat owners just cover the area with table salt and leave it sit for a couple of hours then scrape it up and vacuum. Salt is pretty good because it absorbs moisture. Another method that works quite well is white vinegar mixed with corn starch or just white vinegar by itself. 

Or you can go all out and buy a smell remover product from the pet shop. In my opinion nothing works as good as baking soda and the dog never goes back to that spot, so it must be pretty good.
